This article introduces aluminum curtain wall in detail, including its classifications and features and so on.

1. What is the aluminum curtain wall?
Outside the building wall, there is a glass frame hanging on the aluminum frame, which is called aluminum curtain wall. The curtain wall’s weight and wind load are transmitted to its aluminum frame. Due to the different design and style, we can get different facades.

2. Classification of aluminum curtain wall
Generally, the aluminum curtain wall refers to the framed aluminum curtain wall, and the glass has a aluminum frame, namely, the glass is embedded in aluminum sash, the glass’ weight and wind load can be transmitted to the aluminum frame. The aluminum curtain wall is not embedded in the glass aluminum sash, but use structural adhesive to stick on the aluminum sash. Glass weight and wind loads can pass by the glue to the aluminum sash. Hidden framed curtain wall can be divided into two types: fully implicit ones and semi-implicit ones; the semi-implicit curtain wall can also be sorted into two kinds: vertical hidden but horizontal presented and horizontal hidden and vertical presented.

3. Features of aluminum curtain wall
(1) Selection of the material: according to the height of aluminum curtain wall; different grids, wind load, seismic coefficient the maximum temperature difference between summer and winter sunshine and other factors, the required aluminum profile can be selected to meet the load requirements of different aluminum curtain wall.

(2) Manufacturing:
Choosing the appropriate material, design with different styles, and the frame can be manufactured and fixed outside. The thermal expansion and contraction of the aluminum material should be taken into consideration during manufacturing. Design the contraction joints in accordance with the height and width of the curtain wall. Usually, formula △I=atI△T is used to present the length of aluminum profile, △I is the length variation; at means expansion coefficient, I stands for the length of aluminum profile and △T represents the temperature difference. From the formula, we can see that the longer aluminum profile is the larger temperature difference in summer and winter. In order to ensure a solid framework of aluminum curtain wall, manufactures can add a coated profile, thus can guarantee the contraction joints will not distort in different temperature, therefore can protect the integrity of the frame.

(3) Installation of glass
One method is installed by components. Firstly, install the vertical components on the frame; then install horizontal components, combined with the vertical components to form fame; finally, install the glass. This method only can be applied outside the wall, and need scaffolding or special workbench. Another method is according to grids and manufactured grids with glass in advance, then hanging them in the frame of aluminum curtain wall one by one. This method can be used inside and outside.

No matter which method is applied, make sure that the air tightness, water tightness, wind pressure and shock resistance of aluminum curtain wall are conform to the national standard, the above properties must be based on testing data.
